“All right, sweetheart. I promise I’ll enjoy it.”
“And promise you won’t feel out of place.”
“I’ll try,” I said. “I’m just more used to counting dollars than flying First Class.”
What nobody warned me was that First Class apparently came with complimentary toenails.
I got to the airport three hours early, because that’s who I am.
“Welcome, Mrs. Miller,” said the attendant at the lounge entrance, a young woman with kind eyes and a name tag that read GRACE.
I actually turned around to see who she was talking to.
Inside, it was another world. Leather armchairs. Tall windows full of airplanes. Fresh pastries, fruit that hadn’t been sitting under a heat lamp, and enough free food to feed my entire school faculty through a professional development day.
I took a photo of the croissants and sent it to Emily.
Emily: PLEASE DON’T STEAL THE SPOONS 😜
